
NORTH CAROLINA — Goldsboro police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Thursday night after officers were alerted by the city’s ShotSpotter system.
According to the Goldsboro Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Vanderbilt Circle around 8:38 p.m. on May 7 following a ShotSpotter alert indicating possible gunfire in the area.
While officers were responding, police said they received additional information reporting that a person had been shot.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to UNC Health Wayne, where he later died from his injuries.
Police identified the victim as 42-year-old Edward Duncan Jr. of Smithfield.
The Goldsboro Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau responded to the scene and has taken over the investigation.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
