SOUTH CAROLINA — A 57-year-old Anderson County man was killed in a workplace accident involving a forklift Monday afternoon, according to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office.

The incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. at Industrial Warehouse Services on Pearman Dairy Road in Anderson, near the intersection of Old Pearman Dairy Road.

The coroner identified the victim as Anthony Mark Lamattina III, 57, of Townville.

According to a preliminary investigation, Lamattina was helping unload a truck while a coworker operated a forklift. Authorities said materials being carried by the forklift began to fall, pinning Lamattina beneath a pallet.

The coroner’s office said Lamattina died from traumatic asphyxiation. His death has been ruled accidental.

Officials also noted that Lamattina served as a volunteer firefighter with the Double Springs Fire Department.

The incident remains under investigation by the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
