KENTUCKY — Police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a young pedestrian late Thursday night in Louisville.
According to Louisville Metro Police, officers were called around 11 p.m. to the area of Vaughn Mill Road and Briscoe Lane after receiving a report of a person down in the roadway.
When officers arrived, they found a young male who had been struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s age or identity.
Preliminary findings indicate the victim was walking along the right shoulder of Vaughn Mill Road in a dark, unlit area and was heading northbound when he was struck from behind by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. The impact knocked the victim off the roadway and into a nearby ditch.
Police said the driver did not stop to render aid and fled the scene.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who has information about the vehicle involved to contact Louisville Metro Police at 502-574-LMPD (5673) or submit a tip through the department’s online crime tip portal.
The LMPD Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate the incident.
