INDIANA — One person is dead after a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian on Fort Wayne’s south side early Saturday morning.
According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Hanna Street and East Sherwood Terrace at approximately 2:15 a.m. after receiving reports of a crash involving a pedestrian.
When officers arrived, they found a man lying in the intersection. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said multiple witnesses reported that the vehicle involved fled immediately after the crash. However, investigators later located the vehicle after canvassing the surrounding area.
A preliminary investigation indicates that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash, according to police.
Detectives continue to interview witnesses and are seeking any nearby surveillance video that may aid the investigation.
