SOUTH CAROLINA — One person died following a predawn crash involving a tractor-trailer and a box truck Friday morning in Orangeburg County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Lance Corporal Brittany Glover said the crash happened around 2:45 a.m. on Whetstone Road near North Road.
Authorities said a 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling north on Whetstone Road when it collided with a 2023 Mercedes-Benz box truck that was backing east on Whetstone Road.
Both drivers were taken to the hospital following the collision. Officials said the driver of the Mercedes-Benz box truck later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.
