One person dead after vehicle crashes into embankment in Ohio

OHIO — A 69-year-old Ironton man died following a single-vehicle crash Friday morning in Lawrence County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:04 a.m. on State Route 243 near milepost 7 in Perry Township.

Investigators said a 2015 GMC Sierra was traveling west when it crossed the centerline, traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment.

The driver, identified as Timothy Pemberton, 69, of Ironton, was transported by Lawrence County EMS to King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky, where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to have been factors in the crash.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Perry Township Fire Department, Lawrence County EMS and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation.
