NORTH CAROLINA — An 81-year-old man died after his vehicle crashed into a rock wall in Watauga County on Monday afternoon, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers responded to the crash on N.C. 194 South near Brookshire Road at approximately 4:32 p.m.
Investigators said a Honda Ridgeline was traveling south on N.C. 194 when it veered off the roadway and struck a rock wall. The driver, identified as Lowell Thomas Norris, 81, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
According to the State Highway Patrol, neither speed nor impairment is believed to have been a factor in the collision.
The roadway was closed for about two hours while troopers conducted their on-scene investigation and cleared the area.
No additional details about what may have caused the vehicle to leave the roadway were immediately released.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
