FLORIDA — A 23-year-old Tampa man was killed early Friday after being struck by a pickup truck while involved in a crash investigation on Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the incident began just after 11 p.m. Thursday when a Kia Sorento driven by a 19-year-old Lakeland woman was traveling westbound on I-4 in the inside lane near I-75. A tractor-trailer carrying food items, driven by a 53-year-old Wesley Chapel man, was traveling in the center lane.

According to FHP, the Lakeland woman lost control of the Kia, which entered the center lane and collided with the tractor-trailer. Both vehicles traveled into the median, where the tractor-trailer overturned. Neither driver was injured.

During the investigation, patrol vehicles and Florida Department of Transportation contracted Walsh trucks were blocking the inside lane of the interstate.

A few hours later, around 2 a.m. Friday, a Toyota Corolla driven by the 23-year-old Tampa man collided with one of the Walsh trucks, troopers said. The impact pushed the truck into a nearby Lazydays RV dealership, where it struck two parked RVs.

FHP said a 23-year-old passenger in the Toyota exited the vehicle and was lying in the roadway when he was struck by a Hyundai Santa Cruz driven by a 73-year-old Riverview man.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
