
INDIANA — A man was killed early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle in southeast Fort Wayne, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 2:20 a.m. to the intersection of Hanna Street and East Sherwood Terrace on reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.
When officers arrived, they found a man lying in the intersection. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police said witnesses reported the vehicle involved fled immediately after the crash.
During the investigation, officers determined speed and alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors in the incident.
The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team and Air Support Unit responded to assist with the investigation. Detectives interviewed nearby residents while aerial units documented the scene from above.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
The crash remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
