GEORGIA — A Phenix City man was arrested after authorities say he was caught illegally dumping trash at a Stewart County dumpster site.

According to the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Joseph Lamb on May 24 and charged him with unlawful dumping.

Officials said the arrest occurred after a sheriff’s deputy observed a suspicious vehicle with an Alabama license plate at the county dumpster site on Julia Road in the Omaha community. Sheriff Larry Jones said the deputy witnessed Lamb actively dumping items into the dumpster before taking him into custody.

Authorities also impounded Lamb’s vehicle at the scene. The vehicle remains in police custody.

Following the arrest, Jones said the sheriff’s office is continuing its efforts to crack down on illegal dumping by people from outside the county.

The sheriff’s office is encouraging residents to report suspicious activity related to illegal dumping. Anyone who witnesses unlawful dumping is asked to contact Stewart County authorities at 229-838-4311.
