SOUTH CAROLINA — A Moncks Corner man was arrested Monday after officers found methamphetamine inside a vehicle in the parking lot of a North Charleston motel, according to police.
The incident occurred at the Siesta Motor Lodge on Rivers Avenue when an officer on patrol noticed a vehicle entering the parking lot with two occupants. Police said the officer recognized one of the individuals from previous incidents involving drugs and trespassing in the area.
According to authorities, the occupants ignored repeated requests from motel management and police to leave the property. Officers then called for backup and stopped the vehicle.
While issuing trespass notices, officers noticed the passenger appeared nervous and was repeatedly smoking cigarettes. After the passenger exited the vehicle, officers observed several needles in the front passenger seat that appeared to contain drug-related residue.
Police searched the vehicle and found a backpack in the backseat containing a gray bottle with a plastic bag holding approximately 1.6 grams of methamphetamine.
The driver was identified as 69-year-old John David Lee of Moncks Corner.
Lee was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center, where he remains in custody.
No additional information was immediately available.
