GEORGIA — A traffic stop in Toccoa early Thursday morning led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man on multiple drug and firearm charges, according to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the stop happened around 2:55 a.m. May 14 on East Tugaloo Street near Short Street. Authorities identified the driver as Rosevelt Trimiar of Toccoa.
During the stop, deputies deployed K-9 Ria to conduct a free-air sniff around the vehicle. The sheriff’s office said the K-9 alerted deputies to the odor of illegal narcotics, giving them probable cause to search the vehicle.
Investigators said the search uncovered suspected methamphetamine, a large amount of suspected marijuana, plastic baggies commonly used for narcotics packaging, drug-related objects with residue, ammunition and a handgun.
Trimiar was arrested without incident and taken to the Stephens County Detention Center.
He is charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of drug-related objects.
Authorities said Trimiar remained jailed on a $56,000 bond.
