OHIO — A woman was arrested Monday morning after police responded to reports of a suspicious person at a Speedway gas station on North Main Street.
According to the Urbana Police Division, officers were called to the Speedway at 731 N. Main St. around 9:25 a.m. after a caller reported a woman acting strangely inside the store.
Police said the caller told dispatchers the woman had bent over the counter, was making grunting noises and appeared to be struggling while attempting to pay.
When officers arrived, they found 35-year-old Amber Parks outside near a gas pump next to her vehicle. Police said Parks appeared unsteady on her feet and was moving erratically, including swinging her arms and repeatedly bending over.
According to police, Parks initially told officers she was taking Suboxone and had used marijuana. Officers said she later admitted she would likely test positive for crack cocaine and fentanyl and eventually told them she had used crack cocaine earlier that morning.
Police said Parks consented to a search of her vehicle, where officers reportedly found multiple pipes with residue and aluminum foil inside her purse and vehicle. One pipe found in her purse later tested positive for crack cocaine in a field test, according to investigators.
Officers also conducted field sobriety tests and said they observed several signs of impairment, including balance problems and difficulty following instructions.
Parks was arrested and taken to the Urbana Police Division, where she provided a urine sample before being transported to jail.
She is charged with operating a vehicle while impaired, possession of controlled substances and driving under a non-compliance suspension.
