NORTH CAROLINA — A Warsaw-area man is facing multiple charges after Magnolia police said he led officers on a high-speed pursuit Thursday night before crashing in a field south of town.
According to Magnolia Police Chief Donald Wood, officers spotted a red 2014 Chevrolet Camaro traveling more than 100 mph on Monk Street shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday.
Police said officers attempted a traffic stop using blue lights and sirens, but the driver accelerated to speeds exceeding 130 mph.
The chase ended when the driver crashed in a field near U.S. 117 south of House of Raeford near the Brooks Quinn intersection.
Authorities identified the driver as 33-year-old Milton Donovan West of the Warsaw area. Police said West suffered a minor laceration to his forehead.
West was arrested and charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, driving while license revoked, speeding, no liability insurance, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, carrying a concealed gun, reckless driving and driving a motor vehicle with no registration.
Police said West was given a $5,000 secured bond and transported to the Duplin County Jail.
According to the Magnolia Police Department, the vehicle may be subject to seizure under North Carolina’s “Run and Done” law, which allows the forfeiture of vehicles involved in felony fleeing to elude cases.
The department thanked the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office, Rose Hill Police Department, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Duplin EMS and Duplin County Communications for assisting during the incident.
