OHIO — A driver was arrested early Wednesday morning after leading troopers on a brief pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed into a tree on Cleveland’s East Side.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding near East 105th Street and Kempton Avenue at approximately 1:26 a.m.
Authorities said the driver failed to stop and instead turned onto Pierpont Avenue. Troopers initiated a pursuit but later terminated it due to public safety concerns.
After the pursuit was called off, the vehicle continued down a dead-end street, entered a schoolyard and struck a tree, according to a release from the highway patrol.
The driver then fled the scene on foot but was taken into custody a short time later.
Cleveland EMS evaluated the driver at the scene. No injuries were reported.
Troopers said suspected drugs were recovered from the vehicle during the investigation.
The driver was released pending further investigation. The incident remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
