NORTH CAROLINA — A western North Carolina woman is facing charges after deputies said she fired a gun toward an 18-year-old following a dispute involving ATVs.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded May 23 to a shots-fired call on Wild Byrd Road in Murphy.
Investigators said a man and two of his children told deputies that a neighbor confronted them twice while holding a gun. Deputies said the dispute began after the family was riding an ATV in the area.
Authorities identified the neighbor as Belinda Rollins.
During the investigation, deputies said Rollins admitted to firing a gun “in the general direction” of one of the complainant’s children.
Rollins was charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
Court officials issued Rollins a $1,000 unsecured bond. She is scheduled to appear in Cherokee County District Court on June 29.
