GEORGIA — A 32-year-old man has been arrested after authorities say he stole and sold a vehicle belonging to a woman who was in jail.

According to investigators, Cameron Spires is charged with theft by conversion after allegedly selling a tan 2005 Lexus RX that did not belong to him for $700.

Officials said the vehicle’s owner was incarcerated at the time of the sale. Detectives were able to trace the transaction, leading to the recovery of the vehicle by the Douglas Police Department during a traffic stop.

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, which led the investigation, confirmed that the Lexus is being held until it can be returned to its rightful owner.

Authorities say additional charges against Spires are pending as the investigation continues.
