NORTH CAROLINA — A traffic stop in Madison County led to the seizure of methamphetamine and the recovery of multiple stolen items, including trailers and a boat, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the incident began May 31 when they observed a pickup truck towing a trailer loaded in a hazardous manner. As the vehicle turned, several items reportedly fell from the trailer onto the roadway, creating a traffic hazard.
After stopping the vehicle, deputies determined the driver, identified as Christopher Nash, did not have current vehicle registration or proof of insurance.
During an inventory search of the vehicle, investigators said they found a saw that had been reported stolen, approximately 28 grams of methamphetamine, a glass smoking pipe, small plastic bags commonly used for packaging narcotics and digital scales.
Nash was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for keeping or selling controlled substances and possession of stolen property.
He is being held at the Madison County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.
Following the arrest, investigators continued their investigation and recovered two stolen trailers, a stolen boat and additional stolen property believed to be connected to ongoing criminal activity.
The sheriff’s office said additional charges are expected and further arrests of alleged co-conspirators may be made as the investigation continues.
