NORTH CAROLINA — A Charlotte man is facing multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, after police say he attacked another man with a garden tool handle and fired a gun Monday.
According to arrest documents, 66-year-old Robert Lewis Sturdivant allegedly struck and poked the victim with a wooden garden tool handle during the incident. Authorities also say he fired a single round into the air in an attempt to incite fear.
Sturdivant is charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm within city limits.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested Sturdivant on Memorial Day. He was scheduled to appear in Mecklenburg County court Tuesday morning.
No information about the victim’s condition was immediately released.
