SOUTH CAROLINA — Nearly 400 people were arrested in Myrtle Beach during Memorial Day weekend as thousands of visitors traveled to the Grand Strand, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

Police said officers responded to 2,291 calls for service over the weekend. Of those, 1,598 were officer-initiated calls, which the department said reflected a focus on proactive policing during one of the busiest weekends of the year.

According to police, officers made 394 arrests and issued 851 citations during the holiday weekend.

Authorities said 11 people were arrested on DUI charges, while 140 drug charges were filed. Officers also issued 76 citations for open container violations.
