Multiple tornados possible in parts of Texas

TEXAS — A threat of tornadoes is expected across parts of North Texas on Saturday as severe storms move through the region, according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center.

Forecasters have placed portions of North Texas, particularly areas near the Oklahoma border, under a moderate risk for severe weather. The outlook includes cities such as Dallas and Fort Worth, along with surrounding communities.

SPC Day 1 Tornado Outlook

Meteorologists say conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms late Saturday afternoon into the evening. These storms could produce tornadoes, including the possibility of a few strong tornadoes, along with very large hail and damaging wind gusts.

The greatest tornado risk is expected to be focused near a warm front extending across North Texas into Oklahoma. Strong atmospheric instability and wind shear are expected to support the development of supercell thunderstorms, which are capable of producing tornadoes.

In addition to the tornado threat, forecasters warn that hail could reach 2 to 4 inches or larger in diameter, posing a risk for significant damage.

Storms are expected to begin developing by mid to late afternoon and continue into the nighttime hours as they move east-southeast across the region.

Residents in North Texas are urged to stay alert to changing weather conditions, monitor forecasts and have a plan in place in case warnings are issued.
