Multiple schools in Wisconsin could close Friday

WISCONSIN — Multiple schools across Wisconsin could close or dismiss early Friday as a significant severe weather threat moves into the region, bringing the potential for tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, much of Wisconsin is under an “enhanced risk” for severe storms Friday into Friday night, indicating a higher likelihood of widespread and potentially dangerous weather.

SPC Day 2 Outlook

Forecasters warn that conditions could support strong tornadoes, very large hail and widespread damaging winds. These threats raise concerns about power outages, downed trees and hazardous travel conditions during the school day.

School districts across the state may decide to cancel classes or release students early depending on how the storms develop. Officials typically make such decisions based on student safety, including the risk of buses operating during severe weather and the possibility of losing power at school buildings.

The Storm Prediction Center said storms are expected to intensify Friday afternoon and continue into the evening, with the potential for significant impacts across the Upper Midwest.

While no specific closures have been announced, school officials are closely monitoring the forecast and may adjust schedules as needed.

Parents and students are encouraged to stay in contact with their local school districts and monitor weather alerts as conditions change.
