Multiple inches of snow possible in parts of Michigan Thursday

MICHIGAN — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for parts of southwest and west-central Michigan, with heavy lake-effect snow and strong winds expected to create dangerous travel conditions.

The warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday, with additional snowfall between 4 and 9 inches and wind gusts reaching 35 mph.

Whiteout conditions and reduced visibility below 1/4 mile are expected, making travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening.

The storm will impact both the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

A separate Winter Storm Warning is in place for Benzie, Leelanau, and Manistee Counties until 1 a.m. Thursday, with an additional 2 to 5 inches of snowfall expected. Roads will likely become slick and hazardous.

Officials urge drivers to use caution, allow extra travel time, and ensure their vehicles are winter-ready. Those who must travel should carry an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water.
