SOUTH CAROLINA — A man reported missing Wednesday morning was later found dead in a swimming pool at Eastover Park, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies said they responded to a home in Eastover around 8:30 a.m. June 3 to take a missing person report. The caller told authorities her adult son had last been seen at the residence around 4 p.m. on June 2.
A few hours later, shortly after noon, deputies were called to Eastover Park at 1031 Main St. after an unresponsive man was discovered in the park’s swimming pool.
According to the sheriff’s department, park employees found the man while opening the facility.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and was identified as the same man who had been reported missing earlier that morning.
Investigators said foul play is not currently suspected in the death.
The incident remains under investigation.
The sheriff’s department also reminded residents about water safety, noting that drowning incidents can occur quickly. Officials encouraged people to wear life jackets when appropriate, avoid swimming alone and make sure someone knows their whereabouts when entering the water.
