
NORTH CAROLINA — An 84-year-old Burlington man who had been reported missing and was the subject of a Silver Alert was found dead Thursday afternoon, according to police.
Alvin “Al” Johnathan Jeffers was located at approximately 3:45 p.m. on May 28 in the 2500 block of Oakcrest Court, the same area where he was last seen. Police said Jeffers was found in a semi-wooded area along the street.
Authorities said a death investigation is underway, which is standard procedure in unattended deaths.
Jeffers had been diagnosed with dementia and was believed to have been walking in the area when he disappeared.
The Burlington Police Department thanked multiple agencies that assisted in the search effort, including the Burlington Fire Department, Burlington Emergency Management, Alamance County EMS, Alamance County Emergency Management, South Orange Rescue Squad, the North Carolina Department of Correction Canine Unit, Alamance County Rescue Squad and the Alamance Community College Basic Law Enforcement Training program.
