LOUISIANA — A man who went missing after a crash earlier this week was found dead Thursday in St. Charles Parish, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the investigation began April 19 when Louisiana State Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash around 1:30 a.m. on Interstate 10 east near mile marker 220.
During the crash investigation, officials learned that 45-year-old Jonathan McFarland, of Collinston, had been involved but walked away from one of the vehicles. The sheriff’s office was then contacted to assist in locating him.
Detectives determined McFarland was in the area for work and had been traveling to a friend’s home in New Orleans prior to the crash. Authorities searched his hotel room, the friend’s residence, and other locations but were unable to locate him.
On Thursday, detectives and members of the sheriff’s office Marine Division found McFarland’s body in a swampy area near the Interstate 10 and Interstate 310 split, approximately a quarter mile from the crash site.
His body has been sent to the Jefferson Parish Forensic Center for an autopsy. The investigation remains ongoing.
