OHIO — A 25-year-old inmate at the Montgomery County Jail has died after being found unresponsive in his cell earlier this week.
Christian Black, of Zanesville, died at a hospital on Wednesday, March 26.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office is aware of his death but has not yet received his body.
Black was being held on charges of receiving stolen property and obstructing official business, stemming from an incident in Englewood.
On March 23, Englewood police responded to I-70 near Hoke Road around 3 a.m. for reports of a crashed vehicle, which had been stolen during a violent robbery in Beavercreek.
Black was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment before being booked into the jail.
At approximately 1:50 a.m. on March 24, correctional staff conducting a wellness check found Black lying face down in his cell and unresponsive.
Jail medical staff responded, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office requested Dayton Police Department detectives to investigate, as force had been used by correctional staff prior to the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office Inspectional Service Unit will conduct an internal review after Dayton police complete their investigation.
The Ohio Bureau of Adult Detention has also been notified.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office will determine Black’s cause of death.
