LOUISIANA — A 6-month-old child was killed and a 5-year-old was injured in a crash Friday night in Tickfaw, according to Louisiana State Police.

The crash happened around 11:50 p.m. May 22 on U.S. Highway 51 just south of Louisiana Highway 1064 in Tangipahoa Parish.

State police said a Hyundai Elantra driven by 25-year-old Resjyne N. Griffin of Hammond was traveling north on Highway 51 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, entered a ditch and struck a culvert.

Authorities said Griffin suffered moderate injuries.

Two children were also inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Police identified the infant who died as 6-month-old Kaybri Robinson of Hammond. The child was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

A 5-year-old passenger was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, according to investigators.

Troopers said Griffin showed signs of impairment at the scene and was taken to a hospital for treatment. After being released, she was charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, no child restraint, careless operation, open container and driving without a license.

The investigation remains ongoing.
