Indiana resident injured following moped crash in Michigan

MICHIGAN — A moped rider was airlifted to an Ohio hospital after a crash Thursday evening in southwest Hillsdale County, according to the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said 38-year-old Zachary Gaffney of Angola, Indiana, was traveling east on West Camden Road when he crossed the centerline and collided with a westbound Hyundai Elantra near Bishop Road, west of Camden.

The crash was reported around 8:54 p.m. Thursday.

Gaffney was flown by Mercy Health Life Flight to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo for treatment of his injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver of the Hyundai, Valerie Donahue, 64, of Fremont, Indiana, was evaluated at the scene but was not taken to a hospital.

The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office said the crash remains under investigation.

Camden firefighters, Fremont police, Steuben County EMS and Coldwater Towing assisted at the scene.
