ALABAMA — A routine safety checkpoint in Scottsboro led to a drug arrest and the capture of a driver wanted on an outstanding warrant, according to the Scottsboro Police Department.
Police said officers were conducting a safety checkpoint in the 16000 block of Highway 35 at approximately 8:57 p.m. Saturday when they stopped a Jeep Compass.
During the stop, officers determined the driver did not have a valid driver’s license and also had an active warrant through the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. The driver was detained until sheriff’s deputies arrived and took the individual into custody.
Authorities said both occupants of the vehicle consented to a search. During the search, officers allegedly discovered illegal drugs.
Police identified one of the occupants as Martha Ann Credille, 48, of Hammond, Indiana. Investigators said Credille was found in possession of methamphetamine.
Credille was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance involving methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The driver was arrested separately by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office on the outstanding warrant.
No additional information was immediately released.
