GEORGIA — A Cordele man is in custody after deputies say he fled across a field during an attempted apprehension, leading to a search involving a K-9 unit.
According to the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred Thursday when deputies attempted to take Shannon Casteel into custody.
Authorities said Casteel fled on foot across a field and attempted to climb an irrigation pivot in an effort to avoid capture. Deputies received assistance from a Cordele Motor Speedway employee during the search.
A K-9 unit, identified as K-9 Molly, was deployed and helped locate the suspect. Casteel, 46, was then taken into custody and transported to the Crisp County Jail.
Officials said Casteel is facing multiple charges, including obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers, sale, distribution or possession of dangerous drugs, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession and use of drug-related objects and abandonment of certain dangerous drugs or controlled substances.
The investigation remains ongoing.
