NORTH CAROLINA — The first Buc-ee’s travel center in North Carolina will officially break ground in Mebane on June 10.

The project will be built on a 34-acre site along Trollingwood-Hawfields Road near the Interstate 40 and Interstate 85 interchange. The Mebane location will be the first Buc-ee’s in North Carolina and is expected to be approximately 75,000 square feet larger than the company’s nearest existing location in Florence, South Carolina.

The Mebane store is expected to open in late 2027.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has been working with Buc-ee’s to develop additional access points to accommodate traffic traveling to and from the future travel center.

The project has generated significant interest since it was announced, with supporters citing the economic benefits and convenience the travel center could bring to the area. Others have raised concerns about potential traffic congestion and environmental impacts surrounding the development.

Buc-ee’s is known for its large-format travel centers that feature extensive fuel stations, food offerings and retail merchandise. The Mebane location will mark the company’s entry into the North Carolina market.
