OHIO — Ohio is set to see a wave of Big Lots store closures as the discount retailer continues restructuring under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, which it filed for in September.
This latest development is part of a broader strategy by Big Lots to reduce its footprint and manage its financial struggles.
In total, 494 Big Lots locations across the U.S.—representing nearly 36% of the retailer’s stores as of the beginning of the year—are either already closed or slated for closure.
Last week alone, a bankruptcy court approved 46 additional closures in 23 states.
Among the Ohio locations affected are stores in Aurora, Blue Ash, Cherry Grove, Colerain Avenue, Springdale, Centerville, Defiance, Newark, Saint Marys, Sandusky, Hopewell Heights in Toledo, and West Chester.
Four additional Ohio stores—on Eastgate Boulevard in Cincinnati, Grandview in Columbus, Mount Vernon, and Rossford—were newly added to the closure list.
Ohio will retain 102 Big Lots locations, though the company has not ruled out further adjustments as it navigates the bankruptcy process.

Are u closing the one in Canton,Ohio on Whipple Ave in the old Value City furniture store? I used to work at that furniture store. My boss rode a motorcycle thru the store. Customer’s and sales people used to smoke on the showroom sales floor. It was awful. I will probably get cancer because of that. I’m a non smoker. The things they did in that store. Lots of memories there.
