
INDIANA — A man is in custody after a deadly incident Thursday afternoon on Indianapolis’ east side left an 81-year-old man dead and a woman hospitalized, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Police said officers were dispatched around 3:28 p.m. to the 2100 block of Catherwood Avenue for a welfare check request. When officers arrived, they found an adult male and an adult female inside a residence with injuries consistent with trauma.
Medics responded and pronounced 81-year-old John Lloyd Pedigo dead at the scene. The female victim was taken to an area hospital in serious but stable condition.
Detectives quickly identified a suspect who also had multiple outstanding Marion County arrest warrants. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office received information — based on Flock camera data from Marion County — that the suspect was traveling toward Greene County. Greene County Flock cameras later captured the suspect’s vehicle near Lyons, and after an extended search using the camera data, law enforcement located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on State Road 57 near Wagler Racetrack.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported back to Marion County. Indiana State Police also initiated a Greene County OVWI investigation stemming from the traffic stop.
Marion County arrested the suspect on existing warrants for OVWI, OVWI with endangerment, criminal trespass, public intoxication and disorderly conduct. He is also being charged with homicide in connection with Thursday’s incident.
