
VIRGINIA — Schools and several community institutions across Virginia will operate on delayed schedules Thursday, December 11, due to lingering weather-related concerns.
Most divisions plan to open two hours late, while several churches and public facilities have canceled Wednesday evening activities in advance of the winter weather.
Amherst, Bland, Halifax, Nelson, and Campbell County Schools all announced two-hour delays. Lynchburg City Schools, Carroll County Public Schools, and Charlotte County Schools also plan to open two hours late. The Monacan Nation Federal Offices and the National D-Day Memorial will likewise delay opening by two hours.
In Southside Virginia, Amelia County Public Schools, Amelia Academy, Appomattox County Public Schools, Fuqua School, and Prince Edward County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Thursday. Prince Edward officials added that offices will open at 9 a.m.
Multiple churches—including Beaverdam Baptist in Vinton, Goodview Baptist, Mountain View Baptist in Independence, and Pearisburg Church of God—canceled Wednesday night services and activities.
In Western and Southwest Virginia, Dickenson County, Lee County, Norton City Schools, Scott County, and Wise County Schools all reported two-hour delays for Thursday.
Officials advised families to monitor local updates in case weather conditions require additional schedule changes.
