MISSISSIPPI — A search for a missing woman in Marion County ended tragically Monday evening when authorities located her body after a nearly 50-hour effort.

Marion County Emergency Management officials confirmed that 62-year-old Catherine Ann Martin, who had been missing since Saturday, was found dead in a wooded area near her home on Fire Tower Road in the Pine Burr community. The discovery was made around 4:30 p.m. Monday. Officials said search-and-rescue teams from across Mississippi, along with units from Louisiana, spent hours combing a two-mile area made up of dense woods, creeks, and steep terrain.

The search also included helicopters, drones, and nearly 70 volunteers who braved windy, cold, and wet conditions throughout Sunday.

On Monday, a search dog located the first signs of Martin, leading a team of responders into the wooded area on foot. Law enforcement continued securing the scene as nightfall approached.

Martin was reported missing around 3 p.m. Saturday. Emergency officials did not release further details and said their focus remains on supporting the family and completing the investigation.
