OHIO — A 35-year-old man riding an e-bike was killed early Friday morning after he was struck by a car at an intersection in Canton, police said.

According to a release from the Canton Police Department, officers responded around 4:15 a.m. to a crash at Navarre Road SW and Harrison Avenue SW involving a Ford Excursion and an e-bike.

Investigators said the 2000 Ford Excursion was traveling southbound on Harrison Avenue SW when it hit the bicyclist, who failed to stop at a red light while heading eastbound on Navarre Road SW.

The victim, identified as Marvin W. Hightower, 35, was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the driver of the Ford was not injured. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be factors for the driver, but it is unknown whether they played a role for the bicyclist.

The crash remains under investigation.
