OHIO — An Akron man is celebrating a major win after claiming the top prize in the Ohio Lottery’s VIP Millions scratch-off game.

The man purchased the $50 ticket at Circle K #5825, located at 489 E. Bath Road in Cuyahoga Falls, while stopping for gas on his way to visit a relative. At first, he believed he had won $40,000.

“I was very excited to win $40,000,” he said.

Later at home, he realized he had actually won the top prize: $40,000 a year for 25 years.

The winner chose to take the $500,000 cash option. After state and federal taxes totaling 28 percent, he will receive $360,000. He said he plans to use the winnings to pay off his home and car.

VIP Millions offers a top prize of $40,000 a year for 25 years. As of Sept. 24, 25 top prizes remain in the game.

Since 1974, the Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education. More information about its support for education can be found at www.ohiolottery.com/supportingeducation.
