MISSISSIPPI — Carroll County deputies arrested a Yazoo City man after he allegedly attacked a store clerk and robbed the 35/55 Truck Stop on Highway 35 just before 12:15 p.m. on September 15, 2025.

According to Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker, the clerk was beaten after an argument over the price of gas.

The suspect allegedly attempted to gouge the clerk’s eyes before leaving the store, then returned with a gun and demanded money from the register. The clerk complied, and the suspect fled with the cash. The victim was transported to Tyler Holmes Hospital for treatment.

Authorities identified the suspect as 40-year-old Charlie Terrell Jones, who has a violent criminal history. Jones was released on parole seven months ago after serving more than 20 years for crimes including sexual battery and kidnapping.

Sheriff Walker said deputies received assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, the Mississippi Department of Corrections, and the Winona Police K-9 unit. Jones attempted to flee south on Highway 35 toward Kosciusko but was stopped at a roadblock north of the city and arrested without incident.

Jones was booked into the Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility on charges of armed robbery and is awaiting his initial appearance. Additional charges, including possession of a weapon by a felon and failure to register as a sex offender, are expected to be added on September 16.
