Crash landing closes Georgia airport

GEORGIA — The Southwest Georgia Regional Airport is closed to all air traffic after a test aircraft crashed on the runway Monday morning.

According to officials, the incident occurred on August 18 when an aircraft manufactured by Thrush Aircraft, LLC, based in Albany, was performing a test run. The aircraft’s landing gear sheared off, causing it to crash on the runway.

The pilot, who was the only person on board, was not injured.

First responders, including the Airport Police Department, Albany Police Department, Albany Fire Department, and EMS, were called to the scene.

City officials said the airport will remain closed until the aircraft can be removed, which will require approval from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The closure may cause delays for travelers.

Delta Air Lines advised passengers to check for updates on flight availability. As of Monday morning, Flight DL4172 from Atlanta to Albany was still in the air and scheduled to land at 12:08 p.m.
