
ILLINOIS — One person was killed and another was injured in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 in the south suburbs early Saturday, according to Illinois State Police.
The crash happened around 4:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-57 near the Calumet River in Blue Island.
Police said an Illinois Department of Transportation SUV and a passenger vehicle had previously been involved in a crash and were stopped on the left shoulder of the interstate when a third vehicle struck them.
One person died as a result of the collision. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.
A second person was injured and transported to a hospital. Officials did not immediately provide information on the person’s condition.
The crash prompted the closure of both northbound lanes while investigators processed the scene, causing traffic delays.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Illinois State Police.
