OHIO — Ohio lawmakers have approved legislation that includes hundreds of millions of dollars for property tax relief and an expanded statewide sales tax holiday.

State Rep. Mark Hiner announced the Ohio House of Representatives approved Senate changes to House Bill 479, which directs state budget surplus funding toward property tax relief, tax savings for consumers, community projects, and other statewide priorities.

The legislation includes $350 million in property tax relief for Homestead Exemption recipients, aimed at helping eligible homeowners, including many seniors, with rising property tax costs.

It also sets aside $320 million to expand Ohio’s sales tax holiday, extending it from Aug. 1 through Aug. 15, 2027, allowing shoppers to take advantage of two weeks of tax-free purchases.

“Property taxes continue to be one of the biggest concerns facing Ohio homeowners and seniors,” Hiner said. “Ohioans deserve a government that listens to their concerns and delivers results.”

In addition to the tax relief measures, House Bill 479 appropriates $310 million for the Health and Human Services Fund, $200 million to fund community projects included in the Capital Budget without issuing debt, and $35 million to bolster Ohio’s Budget Stabilization Fund, bringing its balance to more than $4 billion.

According to Hiner, the legislation prioritizes investments that return money to taxpayers, assist working families, and strengthen local communities.
