TENNESSEE — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for portions of southern Tennessee until 7 p.m. CDT Monday as forecasters warn that strong to severe thunderstorms could bring damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall to the region.

The watch comes as rain and thunderstorms return to the state, with the potential for a few storms to become strong during the afternoon and evening. According to forecasters, the primary threats are heavy rainfall and strong, potentially damaging winds.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch includes the Tennessee counties of Bedford, Coffee, Franklin, Giles, Grundy, Hardin, Lawrence, Lincoln, Marshall, McNairy, Moore, and Wayne.

Residents in the watch area should remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions and be prepared to seek shelter if severe thunderstorm warnings are issued. Heavy downpours may also lead to localized flooding in areas that receive repeated rounds of rain.

Forecasters say the unsettled weather pattern is expected to continue beyond Monday, with on-and-off chances for showers and thunderstorms through the remainder of the week.

Officials encourage Tennesseans to monitor the latest forecasts and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings as storms move through the area.
