INDIANA — Indiana State Police are investigating an apparent shooting and vehicle crash that left one person dead Saturday evening in rural Washington County.
According to investigators, emergency crews were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. to the 8000 block of South Big Springs Road, about nine miles south of Salem, after receiving an automated crash alert. Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene and requested assistance from Indiana State Police.
State police detectives and crime scene investigators arrived and began collecting evidence as they worked to determine what led to the reported shooting and the subsequent crash.
Authorities said one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released, although investigators said next of kin have been notified.
Police said the investigation remains in its early stages, and no additional information has been released.
Officials added there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public at this time.
