MARYLAND — Several Harford County Public Schools are closing or dismissing students early Friday as Maryland experiences high temperatures and multiple schools deal with air conditioning-related issues.

According to a notice posted by the school system, several buildings are being impacted by malfunctioning chillers, air conditioning failures, and a broken pipe affecting cooling systems.

Edgewood Elementary School is dismissing at 12:30 p.m. due to air conditioning issues in the building. All after-school and evening activities have been canceled.

Havre de Grace High School is dismissing at 11 a.m., while Havre de Grace Middle School is dismissing at 11:45 a.m. School officials said a broken pipe is affecting the building’s air conditioning system. All after-school and evening activities at both schools have been canceled.

Edgewood High School is dismissing at 10:30 a.m. because chillers are not operating at full capacity, impacting air conditioning throughout the building. After-school and evening activities have also been canceled.

Abingdon Elementary School is closed Friday due to a chiller outage that has left the school without air conditioning. No classes or after-school activities are being held.

Aberdeen High School is dismissing at 10 a.m. because chillers are not working at full capacity, affecting air conditioning in the building. All after-school and evening activities have been canceled.

Harford Technical High School is also dismissing at 10 a.m. due to chillers not operating at full capacity. All after-school and evening activities have been canceled.

The school system cited both the extreme heat and cooling system problems as reasons for the schedule changes.
