FLORIDA — A Naples man was arrested Wednesday on drug trafficking charges after deputies discovered more than two kilograms of cocaine during a traffic stop, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Alfredo Perez Castillo, 54, was stopped for speeding on Collier Boulevard near Rattlesnake Hammock Road.

During the stop, a sheriff’s office K-9 alerted deputies to the presence of illegal narcotics in the vehicle. A subsequent search led to the discovery of two bricks of cocaine sealed in plastic bags on the rear passenger seat, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office reported the packages had a combined weight of 2,038 grams.

Perez Castillo, who authorities said was participating in a pretrial substance abuse diversion program related to an earlier felony narcotics charge, was taken into custody and charged with trafficking in cocaine between 28 grams and 150 kilograms.

Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said the seizure prevented more than two kilograms of cocaine from being distributed in the community.

Perez Castillo was booked into jail, and the investigation remains ongoing.
