
VIRGINIA — More than 8,000 utility customers across Virginia are without electricity Thursday morning as outages continue to affect communities across the commonwealth.
According to PowerOutage.us, 8,015 customers are currently without power, affecting about 0.20% of the more than 4.09 million customers tracked statewide.
York County is reporting the largest number of outages, with 4,983 customers without service. Fairfax County follows with 1,330 outages, while Surry County has 266 customers without power. Additional outages are being reported in Alexandria, Arlington County, Danville and Roanoke County.
York County is also the hardest-hit locality by percentage, with 14.97% of tracked customers currently without electricity. Surry County is reporting 6.22% of customers without power.
Dominion Energy is reporting the largest number of outages among utilities, with 7,246 customers without service. Appalachian Power Company is reporting 521 outages, while Danville Utilities has 175 customers without electricity.
Virginia currently ranks eighth in the nation for the total number of power outages and 10th for the percentage of customers affected, according to the outage tracking website.
Utility crews continue restoration efforts across affected areas. Residents are encouraged to report outages directly to their electric provider and avoid downed power lines, which should always be treated as energized and dangerous.
