Multiple people arrested following drug bust in Ohio

OHIO — Several people were arrested this month after law enforcement officers discovered drugs, firearms and cash during a series of traffic stops in Logan County, according to the Bellefontaine Police Department.

In a social media post, the department said K9 Pyro assisted in a proactive enforcement operation conducted in partnership with multiple law enforcement agencies. The operation resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of illegal narcotics and weapons.

On June 2, Bellefontaine police deployed K9 Pyro during a vehicle stop. The K9 gave a positive alert for the presence of narcotics, leading officers to conduct a probable cause search. Investigators said they recovered nearly a half-pound of methamphetamine from the vehicle.

During another traffic stop, K9 Pyro again alerted officers to the odor of narcotics. A subsequent search led to the discovery of a loaded firearm that authorities said was possessed by a convicted felon.

On June 6, the Bellefontaine Police K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop involving a gray Land Rover. Police identified the driver as Carlos Briscoe, who was wanted on a felony drug trafficking warrant. Authorities said the stop was connected to a lengthy drug trafficking investigation involving both Bellefontaine police officers and Logan County Sheriff’s deputies.

After Briscoe was ordered out of the vehicle, K9 Pyro was deployed and helped officers take him into custody without incident. Investigators said Briscoe was found in possession of a large quantity of cocaine, pills and cash.

K9 Pyro later conducted a sniff of the Land Rover and alerted to the presence of narcotics. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, officers recovered a loaded firearm, marijuana products and additional cash, according to the police department.

The investigations remain ongoing.
