OHIO — A man died after being ejected from his vehicle during a two-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning in east Columbus, according to the Columbus Division of Police.
The crash happened around 2:10 a.m. on East Livingston Avenue near South Yearling Road in the Leawood neighborhood.
Police said a driver in a 2020 Ford Fusion was entering East Livingston Avenue from the Embassy Plaza apartment complex when a 2007 Ford Fusion traveling eastbound on East Livingston Avenue approached the intersection.
Investigators said the driver of the 2007 Fusion failed to stop at a traffic signal and entered the intersection, where the 2020 Fusion had already proceeded. The 2007 Fusion struck the driver’s-side rear portion of the 2020 Fusion.
The impact caused the 2007 Fusion to veer across the westbound lanes, leave the roadway and crash into a tree. Police said the driver of the 2007 Fusion was ejected from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Tywan Horton, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead at 2:49 a.m.
No other injuries were reported.
Police have not said whether speed, impairment or any other factors contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
