MICHIGAN — A wrong-way driver was killed late Sunday night in a crash involving eight vehicles on Telegraph Road in Redford Township, police said.
Emergency crews responded to the area near Five Mile Road around 11 p.m.
According to investigators, the driver of a burgundy Dodge Durango was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Telegraph Road. Police said the SUV struck two vehicles just north of Five Mile Road before continuing at a high rate of speed.
Authorities said the Durango then collided head-on with another vehicle stopped at a traffic light. The force of the crash caused several additional vehicles at the intersection to be struck, bringing the total number of vehicles involved to eight.
The driver of the Durango was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said everyone else involved in the crash either escaped injury or suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Jacob Vance with the Redford Township Police Traffic Bureau at 313-387-2561 or by email at jvance@redfordpd.org.
